a working glass blowing studio, technologically advanced resource center, 200-seat theater, café and museum store. The "hot shop" is housed in a 90-foot-tall cone, 100 feet diameter at the base, where visitors are able to witness the creative process.

Internationally acclaimed glass artist and Tacoma native, Dale Chihuly in partnership with the Museum and the City of Tacoma have produced the incredible -- Chihuly Bridge of Glass. This 500-foot bridge spans Interstate 705 to connect the Thea Foss Waterway and the Museum of Glass to the Washington State History Museum and downtown Tacoma. The bridge features one of the largest outdoor installations of Chihuly’s glass, valued at approximately $12 million. A short walk from the Bridge of Glass brings you the newest jewel in the museum district, the 50,000 square foot Tacoma Art Museum. Designed by architect Anthony Predock, and opened in May 2003, it has 12,000 square feet of gallery space. It offers some of the best views in the city and on clear days Mt. Rainier is shown in all its splendor. In addition to major exhibitions featuring NW artists, you’ll also find the TAM home to the largest collection of Chihuly glass in Tacoma.
